In Conversation with the Brands We Love - Meet Sheetal of "The Pretty Geeky"
Today, we are in conversation with Sheetal, the founder of The Pretty Geeky- An Indian brand that uses the concept of STEM on card games.
How was The Pretty Geeky conceived?
While researching on kids’ education, I realised that there is a profound gender disparity in people opting for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) subjects during their higher years and one of the reasons was because of the wide spread stereotyping in what was perceived as toy for a girl - think dolls, coloring, make-up. These were not designed to getting them to solve, strategize, build and conclude and given that most future careers will need proficiency in at least one of the STEM subjects, it seemed imperative to change that statistic.
That's how The Pretty Geeky was born! The fear for STEM subjects is gender agnostic and so, while the characters are all decidedly female, the games are meant for every child.
Pretty is colloquially used to mean ‘quite a bit but not totally’ (eg: pretty light, pretty loud). The games are neither only academic nor simply entertaining – they are a bit of both. ‘The Pretty Geeky’ seemed to fit perfectly.
‘The’ was added to give a sense of community – it’s for all those who are ‘pretty geeky’!
What makes The Pretty Geeky unique?
The Pretty Geeky is an Indian brand that helps simplify academic concepts in math, science, and coding using card games that are educative, engaging, and entertaining. They are easy to carry, understand and play and have enormous repeat play value.
What would you say are The Pretty Geeky’s values?
Imagination, creativity, community, and fun.
Who is Sheetal when not the founder of TPG?
An optimist, an occasionally harrowed but mostly happy parent. Passionate about all things STEM and design and a staunch believer in the power of play. An ardent fan of M.S. Dhoni and Virat Kohli and an advertising professional.
Why is The Pretty Geeky at The Nestery?
Just like The Nestery, The Pretty Geeky is founded on the values of bringing great quality products to help kids become the version of themselves and to help make parenting easy for parents. That, and your cute-as-a-button logo! How could we not be here!
